AB 537 (Arambula): Allows farmers' markets to operate an Electronic Benefits Transfers (EBT) payment system.

SB 1413 (Leno) Requires fresh water for students at school by July 2011.

AB 2084 (Brownley) Ensures access to healthy beverages in child care for youngest children. Co-sponsored by Strategic Alliance members, California Food Policy Advocates and the California Center for Public Health Advocacy. 

AB 1602 (Perez) and SB 900 (Alquist/Steinberg) Makes California the first state to allow the establishment of an oversight board for its new healthcare "exchanges" to help consumers and small businesses shop for and buy affordable, comprehensive health insurance by 2014. The bill also allows for important language access provisions, advocated for by Strategic Alliance steering committee member, California Pan-Ethnic Health Network. The bill will also extend coverage to small businesses and millions of uninsured, particularly low income communities and communities of color. 

VETOED BY THE GOVERNOR:

AB 2147 (V. M. Perez):  Would have ensured that all children, particularly the most vulnerable, benefit from the Safe Routes to School program. Read the veto message.

AB 2720 (Perez):  Would have established a California Healthy Food Financing Initiative to help grocers and farmers' markets open new locations in poor neighborhoods. Read the veto message.

AB 2468 (de Leon): Would have allowed employers to use the designation "Breast-Feeding Mother-Friendly Workplace" on promotional materials if the employer has a breastfeeding policy approved by the California Labor Commissioner. Read the veto message.

AB 1876 (Torlakson):  Would have allowed existing grants from state-funded After School Education and Safety (ASES) program to be used for weekend program-related activities. Read the veto message.

AB 657 (Hernandez): Would have created a workforce diversity master plan; sponsored by Latino Coalition for a Healthy California.

STALLED IN COMMITTEE:

AB 346 (Torlakson): Will make it easier to create new school facilities that can be shared by the community for physical activity (joint use).

SB 194 (Florez): To improve infrastructure in the unincorporated regions of the state.

AB 537 (Arambula): To increase food access at Farmers' Markets. 

AB 100 (Ma): To require employers to provide paid sick days.
